Every piece is tested on a working dog before it is sold to anyone. Her parça, satışa çıkmadan önce çalışan bir köpekte denenir.

How this started

I’m Asya. IROX began with my own dog, Bless.

I was still at university when I went looking for gear for her, and what I could buy was either badly made or actively bad for her. Webbing that rubbed her raw. Hardware I would not have trusted on a dog that pulls the way she does. After enough of that I stopped shopping and started making.

The first thing I ever built was for Bless, and it took the better part of two years before I was willing to call it finished. Most of that time went on learning the difference between what looks strong and what is strong: which stitching holds under a dog in drive, which buckle gives up quietly, how a collar sits after eight hours rather than eight minutes.

Then a friend asked for one. Then people I had never met. They sent photos back, and more usefully they told me what did not work. Nearly every change since has come from someone writing to say their dog is built differently from mine.

I still make everything by hand, to the measurements of the dog it is for. That is slower than it could be, and it is why the wait runs to weeks rather than days. I haven’t found a way to speed it up that I would put my name on.

Bless still tests everything first.

What I’m aiming for

Gear a dog can wear all day and a handler never has to think about. Comfortable enough that the dog forgets it is there, strong enough that you stop checking it, and good-looking enough that you chose it rather than settled for it.

Bu iş nasıl başladı

Ben Asya. IROX, kendi köpeğim Bless ile başladı.

Henüz üniversitedeyken onun için ekipman aradım ve bulabildiklerim ya kötü yapılmıştı ya da doğrudan ona zarar veriyordu. Boynunu açan kayışlar. Onun gibi çeken bir köpekte güvenemeyeceğim donanımlar. Bir süre sonra aramayı bırakıp yapmaya başladım.

Hayatımda ürettiğim ilk parça Bless içindi ve bitti diyebilmem yaklaşık iki yılımı aldı. O sürenin büyük bölümü şunu öğrenmekle geçti: sağlam görünen ile gerçekten sağlam olan arasındaki fark. Hangi dikiş iş başındaki bir köpeğin yükünü taşır, hangi toka sessizce bırakır, bir tasma sekiz dakika değil sekiz saat sonra nasıl oturur.

Sonra bir arkadaşım istedi. Ardından hiç tanışmadığım insanlar. Fotograf gönderdiler ve daha önemlisi neyin işe yaramadığını söylediler. O günden beri yaptığım neredeyse her değişiklik, “benim köpeğim başka türlü” diye yazan birinden geldi.

Hala her şeyi elimle, o köpeğin ölçülerine göre yapıyorum. Bu, olabileceğinden yavaş; bekleme süresinin günlerle değil haftalarla ölçülmesinin sebebi de bu. Altına adımı yazabileceğim daha hızlı bir yol bulamadım.

Bless her şeyi hâlâ ilk deneyen köpek.

Neyi hedefliyorum

Köpeğin bütün gün üzerinde taşıyabileceği, sahibinin ise hiç düşünmesi gerekmeyen bir ekipman. Köpeğin varlığını unutacağı kadar rahat, kontrol etmeyi bırakacağınız kadar sağlam ve mecbur kaldığınız için değil, beğendiğiniz için seçeceğiniz kadar iyi görünen.
